I work for a company that has a large number of BlackBerries that sync via BES. I'm considering getting a Windows Mobile (6.1) phone and I'm investigating options for synching email. I've heard that BlackBerry has a product called BlackBerry Connect for Windows Mobile that will allow Windows Mobile devices to sync via the BES server just as if it was connecting directly to Exchange. I've Googled a bunch, but can't find much good information. Is BlackBerry Connect a viable alternative? What are the key differences? Will I notice any difference compared to synching directly to Exchange?

Not really an answer, however I have to say that Exchange to Windows Mobile is brilliant, using BES just seems like a bad idea (even if it will work). Exchange Anywhere, or connecting over HTTP works well and you should have no problem or security issues over using a standard blackberry and BES. – William Hilsum Aug 13 '09 at 2:18
You have webmail right? Then nearly exactly the same stuff is used to get the Windows Mobile to connect with ActiveSync so I don't know where the security risk could come from? – Ryaner Aug 13 '09 at 15:37
Ryaner, I'm not saying that there is a security risk, but if there is something already in place that I can work with, then why even go through the effort of setting up the SSL cert etc. I understand that ActiveSync is the best option, but is BlackBerry Connect also viable? – Stefan Moser Aug 13 '09 at 15:47
for basic use, mail/contacts/cal sync its fine, only really good if you wanted the control over the device that BES would offer, but at that dont think BBconnect gives much control to the admin. Also BBconnect was only officially on one or two devices, if you want it now for a windows mobile you'd have to track down a hacked out .cab file from one of the phone roms that has it. BES has its own encryption and other security featuers which are probably stronger than the windows equivelant, but the certificate windows uses should be enough – Ben Gillam Sep 22 '09 at 8:59
