Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have SQL Server set to automatically track changes on a table and that works fine. However, sometimes there is quite a delay (over 8 hours) between when the changes are tracked and when the changes are actually applied to the index.

Now and then I have to go into the DB and manually apply the changes to the index. Why does it apply the changes right away sometimes, but not other times? How can I force it to apply the changes on the fly?
