I'm trying to update the admin status of an interface on a Vyatta router I have running as a LiveCD in VirtualBox using SNMP. The version of Vyatta is VC6.6R1, and I'm using SNMP version 2c.

I can read the admin and operational status of each interface, but when I try to set the admin status of one of the interfaces I get a genErr(5) and the admin status goes unchanged. I verified that I can change the admin status via the Vyatta command line, and after doing that my SNMP get calls for the admin and operational status of said interface reflect the change. So, for some reason my SNMP set calls just aren't working.

pysnmpget -v 2c -c abc123 10.20.0.254 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7.4
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.2.2.1.7.4 = Integer: 1

pysnmpset -v 2c -c abc123 10.20.0.254 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7.4 i 2
genErr(5)

FYI, OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7.4 translates to .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifAdminStatus at ifDescr 4, which is eth3 in my case.

I saw a post on Vyatta's forum where a user was able to do the above without issues. However, he was using Vyatta version VC4 at the time (back in 2008).

Any ideas?!
