I am familiar with swapping out drives when a drive in a RAID fails. However, I have never lost data before. My Adaptec controller is reporting that the RAID 5EE logical device has bad stripes. I have pulled the physical drive that originally failed.

My question, once I have my replacement, with a bad stripe should I just delete the logical device and recreate it from scratch? Is it possible to recover the data? I have backups for the data already, it would just save time if I did not have to create the RAID and set up the OS from scratch. Also, was it a mistake to use a RAID 5EE, instead of a RAID 5 with a Hot Spare?

A lot a questions, I know. Thank you for your help!
