Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm currently running an openvpn server using routed mode (ubuntu 12.04) Because I have written a network application that uses broadcast, I think I have no choice but to go to bridged mode. However, I'm not sure how to change the interface config, because on the tutorials I found, it's always a little bit different (no loopback)..

My current /etc/network/interfaces :

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
address 127.0.0.1
netmask 255.0.0.0

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 178.xx.xx.xx
netmask 255.255.255.0
broadcast 178.xx.xx.xx
network 178.xx.xx.xx
gateway 178.xx.xx.xx

I need to add a bridge, but I'm afraid I will make a mistake and I won't have access to my webserver, ssh server and mail server. Can someone help me with this?

Thanks in advance!
