Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I still get this error from time to time while calling FB/Twitter services. I add the IP in question to the firewall, use WHOIS to find other IPs, but eventually it happens again.

Doing reverse look-ups once a week and hoping the app doesn't break doesn't seem like a genuinely workable solution. Does anyone know if Twitter of Facebook publish whitelists of IP addresses for their services?

What exactly is going on here? –  Michael Hampton Oct 27 '13 at 3:57

Our firewall is blocking the IP address for facebook/twitter service requests. We can add an IP address to the outbound connections list, but twitter and facebook can change their IP addresses at will, which means the app will break until we add the IP address to the outbound connections list. –  Josh C Oct 27 '13 at 4:00

Why don't you just allow all the ranges in their AS? –  Michael Hampton Oct 27 '13 at 4:00
