I am trying to get the network on one of my VM configured:

The following is the configuration:

auto eth0
  iface eth0 inet static
  address xxx.xxx.xxx.225
  netmask 255.255.255.240
  network xxx.xxx.xxx.224
  broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.239
  gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.225
  dns-nameservers 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 8.8.8.8

Please Note xxx.xxx.xxx are just placeholder values.

I was assigned an IP Block with CIDR: xxx.xxx.xxx.224/28 of which I assigned xxx.xxx.xxx.224 to NIC1 on the dom0 (i.e. the host machine). Next, I created a VM with NIC1 as the interface and have been trying to assign the IP but haven't been able to get it running.

What could I be doing wrong?

Most likely your DOM0 network configuration is the problem. There needs to be a bridge setup so that the DomU's can communicate with the rest of the network. Can you post your DOM0 network configuration please? –  GeoSword Oct 28 '13 at 12:10
