Im running a windows 2008r2 server (64bit). Its Running Sql express and some other applications.

Checking the server this morning Task Manager is reporting 9.5gb (out of 12gb avliable) is in use. However when I check processes, I have 54 process, it adds up to approx 2gb, so where is the other 7.5gb gone?

I tried using sysinternals, no luck, does anyone have any ideas on how to identity where this memory is being used? FYI sql-express is consuming the most memory at 740mb.

Can you confirm you clicked the button "Show process from all users" in Task Manager -> Processes tab? –  Sam Mar 13 at 9:59

Yes I have clicked that –  D-W Mar 13 at 10:04

Can you post a screenshot of task manager. I suspect the other is "in use" by the file caching mechanism with windows 2008R2 –  Rex Mar 13 at 12:48

RAMMap will tell you. Most likely, it's just clean file mappings that aren't associated with any process. –  David Schwartz Mar 13 at 18:11

post pictures of RAMMap. –  magicandre1981 Mar 20 at 19:05
