Our webserver just changed its name from to There is already a mail domain called on another server. Now sendmail is confused, because it considers any to be local, so we cannot send mails to the actual mail server. I'm trying to teach sendmail to see a different domain as local, but all my attempts have failed. I never really worked with sendmail, so I don't know much about how to configure it.

I added define(confDOMAIN_NAME, to and restarted the service, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. It still uses the machines hostname as local domain. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Writing to mc file and restarting sendmail is not enough. You have to generate the new from before restarting sendmail service : m4 /path/to/ > /path/to/ Make backup before all –  krisFR Apr 11 '14 at 17:25
