I have a question, I'm using jmeter from my pc that drives a jmeter-server that is installed on a RHEL5.8

my version of java is :

[jmeter@sem-osb logs]$ cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.8 (Tikanga)
[jmeter@sem-osb logs]$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_51"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_51-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.51-b03, mixed mode)

My pc runs ArchLinux. On both I use the same version of Jmeter, that is : jmeter.JMeter: Version 2.11 r1554548

So I try to run a simple test, with 3 requests to a soap webservice, and try to simulate 2 clients that run those requests forever (I want to load the server).

After some time I receive on the jmeter-server.log, the following error :

2014/04/23 14:57:39 INFO - jmeter.util.JMeterUtils: Setting Locale to fr_FR

The ip mentionned in the error, 172.30.102.135 is the ip from where i start the tests, meaning my pc. So it seems after some time the jmeter-server can't reach me anymore. The thing is that I receive a lot of results before that, so there's nothing wrong with the network configuration. The test is stopping because I asked for it to stop after any error, but if I don't check this option it goes on, adding more errors to the log file. I was thinking about maybe something to change in the /etc/security/limits.conf maybe, but I'm not reaylly sure. I'd really appreciate any idea.

If you need more details just ask.

I've got help from this website : http://howtojboss.com/2012/07/31/concurrent-high-throughput-performance-testing-with-jmeter/

The solution was to use this parameter, it seems that when you open too many connections the ports that are used for old ones are staying too long on TIME_WAIT state, so this helps :

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_tw_recycle
