Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am using collectd 5.4.0 with CGP 0.4.1 on a freshly installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. All default settings work as expected and charts are being generated.

To track Mails being sent from the Server, in uncommented the tail Plugin and added a configuration as described in https://collectd.org/wiki/index.php/Plugin:Tail/Config#Postfix

My simplified config (only sent mails) is as follows.

<Plugin "tail">
    <File "/var/log/mail.log">
    Instance "postfix"

    <Match>
        Regex "status=sent"
        DSType "CounterInc"
        Type "counter"
        Instance "status-sent"
    </Match>

  </File>
</Plugin>

The rendered images looks like this

The Problem is, the count does not match. Each mail sent is counted as "50m", so the 600m spike is a mail with 12 recipients.

Is anyone else seeing this? What changes do I need to make the get a simple count of sent mails?

Thanks
