Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a KVM setup on Centos 6.4 64 Bits. My server provider assign us a Main IP to the Host with a gateway and netmask. Also our provider assign us additionals IP ( not in the same block as the Main IP of the server ) but that IPs are statically routed to the main so they haven't a gateway or netmask from his network.

Here is my network configuration of the Host:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr A0:2B:B8:1F:0B:80
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:80 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:37 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:6884 (6.7 KiB) TX bytes:6262 (6.1 KiB)
          Interrupt:7

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1

First issue: How Can I assign the IP to the Guest if I haven't a Gateway and a netmask only the IP. My provider give us a workarround for this issue creating a bridge with a non-routed IP like 10.4.4.1/24 and assign a IP of the same block 10.4.4.2/24, then I have to add the public IP on the guest with:

ifconfig xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask 255.255.255.255 eth0:0 up

and then add a route on the host:

route add -host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/32 dev vmbr0

I tried this solution but it did not work.

Second issue: My provider has a mac-address based filter so the traffic from the server only may have the mac-address of the host.

We use SolusVM as a management control panel to the VMs so we have some limitations but at this point we only need this work with or without a control panel.

I need some help with this issue because I spend lot of time and I cant find a solution and my server provider not help much.

Thanks!
