Server Fault is a question and answer site for system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have written a Tornado based Server that makes readouts from files on disk available via http. The size of the readouts I am serving is either about 10kb or about 1MB. I have a server machine with num_cores=12 and hyper-threading available.

I want to have num_hyperthreads tornado processes to handle the reading of the data and reverse-proxy that with nginx. With supervisord it was easy to spawn the 48 Tornado process listening on the port range 4000 - 4047.

But I am not sure about the tornado configuration. How many workers should I let tornado spawn? Generally it is said that it should be num_cpus, but not more than 4. If I let nginx spawn 12 workers and my ulimit is 32768, then how many worker connections shall each worker have?
