Server Fault is a question and answer site for system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a folder that is shared from Windows (2012 R2) via NFS, and mounted in Linux (Ubuntu 14.04). Everything is working fine, except that when a file is open in Windows, even if it's just Read access with no lock, the Linux side can't read it, or even stat() it. I just get all question marks in the ls -l listing for the permissions.

Is this expected behaviour? Is there any way to change this? If the file's not locked, I think it should still be openable...
