Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've a VPN on Windows Server 2012 R2 to secure some intern admin interfaces for a small crowd of people. It's working but when I'm connected to the VPN, it is used for all internet traffic. So when I visit http://www.whatismyip.com/ I see the external IP of the server machine.

Is there a way to avoid this? I've a DNS-Server with Active Directory, so a possible solution would be to use the VPN only when a DNS-Request would result in an internal IP (e.g. 10.0.0.4). All other traffic would bypass the VPN and use the normal direct internet connection of the client instead. But how to do this?

There should be a setting in your VPN client connection to use the remote gateway. Unselect that setting. –  joeqwerty Jul 29 at 21:29
