Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Using ansible, I have setup several Signed NTP servers around our network. The servers themselves are Virtual Hosts running on CentOS 6.5. I have the virtual machine guests on each host contact their respective host as well as the hosts from around the network for time information. These servers are using IFF identification.

My question is: Why, when all of these servers and clients were setup using templates and ansible, does one of my departments virtual guests only connect to their host's NTP server? The affected clients all show the following:

ntpq -c as

ind assid status conf reach auth condition last_event cnt
===========================================================
  1 47903  c01c   yes    no   bad    reject              1
  2 47904  c01c   yes    no   bad    reject              1
  3 47905  c01c   yes    no   bad    reject              1
  4 47906  f67a   yes   yes   ok   sys.peer    sys_peer  7
  5 47907  c01c   yes    no   bad    reject              1
  6 47908  c01c   yes    no   bad    reject              1

Another virtual guest server in a different location shows this:

ntpq -c as

ind assid status conf reach auth condition last_event cnt
===========================================================
  1 61630  f61a   yes   yes   ok   sys.peer    sys_peer  1
  2 61631  f434   yes   yes   ok  candidate   reachable  3
  3 61632  f32d   yes   yes   ok    outlyer              2
  4 61633  f41a   yes   yes   ok  candidate    sys_peer  1
  5 61634  f41a   yes   yes   ok  candidate    sys_peer  1

Bear in mind, these are the exact same NTP servers in both cases.
