I'm interested in retrieving a couple of different metrics from some Sun hardware via SNMP, and was wondering if someone with a bit of experience in this area could help me out.

Sun Blade 6250 - All I want to retrieve from this is the temperature. I don't have access to the hardware at the moment to test this, but could someone verify that I have the correct OID?

It's 1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.210.2.9

I think this is a table, but I'm not exactly sure how to reference the rows and get the temp values from them. Can anyone clear that up?

I got this OID from http://www.sun.com/servers/blades/downloads.jsp > X6250_Tools_And_Drivers_3.0_MIBs.zip > ServiceProcessor_v002.mib.

Also, I'd like to monitor a few things on a Sun Rack II - is this possible, or should I be monitoring the Sun Blade 6000 chassis that sits inside it instead?

Try doing a snmpwalk on that OID, it should return all the members in the table. You should be able to figure out what the OID of the specific element(s) you want are from that output. –  David Mackintosh Sep 22 '09 at 18:49

@C.McAtackney, did you ever find a resolution to this question? –  Royce Williams Dec 11 '11 at 6:47

@Royce Williams: Sorry for the delay, I only noticed this in my inbox. This was obviously quite a while back, and I think I did get a resolution, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was. I'm afraid I've moved to a different employer since then as well, so I don't have access to the solution anymore. Sorry I couldn't be more help, I know how frustrating SNMP is.. –  C.McAtackney Dec 21 '11 at 16:49
