I'm currently looking for a decent DNS zone & record manager an would love some recommendations.
The host for these sites doesn't offer anything, but something as simple as Slicehost's DNS screens would be great.

This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers.

I use it with my Linode account to manage about 5 domains with many sub-domains. Didn't want to fuss with bind or djbdns. Their limits on the number of domains and records you can manage are quite high and the interface is simple too.

I'm personally using the free Afraid Free DNS service and have always been very happy with it.

I've used ZoneEdit for years and been happy with their service. However, due to some recent hiccups, I decided to try out some alternatives. I spent a few months using Pingdom's service to test several DNS hosting companies that have a free option. It isn't definitive, but I tried all of these personally with my own domain. These results only represent a recent snapshot of 8 days. Things can and often do change over time. But at least for this month, I would recommend Namecheap or ClouDNS. I think Namecheap was better, but I loved the UI at ClouDNS.
I have no affiliation with any of these services.

One option would be to have your first DNS entry hosted with your registrar, then run Presuming, of course, you've a domain and hosting provider :)
