If you run a computer service / IT consulting shop, what software (web-based or desktop based) do you use to run the business? I'm looking for stuff that keeps a history of client issues for logging purposes, CRM type stuff, etc.

I would probably start with Sugar CRM. It has both open source and enterprise (paid) versions. I work with a small company that uses it quite a bit, although I have no experience with it.

You may take a look at glpi, it's a very good inventory and issue tracking system, you can even group your machines by customers using entities, get statistic reports about your tickets and authenticate with AD if needed. It runs with apache/php/mysl and is very easy to deploy.

If you want something more tailored to the IT industry then look at a professional services automation solution. Software like this keeps track of your clients, time, billing and helpdesk and allows you to see what jobs you make money from and what end up costing you money.
