on the test disk website:
it states that it can be used to recover data off raid 5
has anyone found any guides on how to do this?
or if someone knows how fancy giving me a quick how to?
TestDisk and similar tools helps with logical problems such as corrupt or reformated filesystems, deleted files and corrupt partition tables. It will be of little use should you have lost physical drives beyond the redundancy of your array.
If only one disk have failed on your RAID 5 array, there should be no need for any particular recovery software. Simply replace the faulty drive and have the raid controller rebuild the array.
What exactly went wrong with your RAID5 array?
If you deleted your partition table, TestDisk can help you out. If you lost 2 disks out of your array, TestDisk isn't going to help you out that much.
If only one drive failed you should be able to replace the drive and rebuild using the raid card software/drivers. Most of them will rebuild automatically when you replace it.
