Subjective question, I know, here's goes. I'm looking to expand business into Canada. As far as I know, I don't need hosting capabilities—just the domain name. Has anybody dealt with a good .ca registrar?

In the good old days, .ca registration was handled by a guy (John Demco) at UBC - you'd call him up and he'd enter your domain. When the Internet took off, the .ca registry was formalized, a very typical Canadian quasi-governmental agency (CIRA) was set up to be the equivalent of ICANN/IANA and a company was set up at UBC to be the first .ca registrar: Webnames. Disclaimer: I don't work for them, but I use them for all the domains I register, both personally and for the company I work for. Webnames isn't the cheapest registrar, but they're solid. If you register more than a few domains, they'll usually assign a real person to deal with. Their tech support is good, you get a real person on the phone after just a couple phone option selections. Sheesh, it took a bit to find it on the CIRA site, here's the official list of Certified Registrars for .ca Looking through the list, other than the godaddy and the couple that are part of telecomm giants, I can't recognize any that I've heard of, and a bunch of them sound like the scamers who send out fake "Your domain is at risk! Renew now with us!!" mailings. |

I use MarkMonitor for all of our 1400 or so domains across several TLDs, including .ca. It's a paid service, but I've a fairly positive experience with them for the last 4 or 5 years. |

I use Sibername.com and dont have any huge complaints. Sometimes their advanced dns screen doesnt save correctly so I just use my host/vps dns manager. |
