Kickstart installation from USB -- Kickstart location
I was able to solve this by doing the following:
Place the kickstart file at the top of the isolinux directory and make sure it is named ks.cfg
my isolinux.cfg file looks like this:

Bringing this back from the dead for completion.
The details are fuzzy, but as it turns out the device itself was crashing on boot. I believe it had to do with uBoot generated chatter on the USB line....
