Deleting a snapshot collapses out the disk differential for just that snapshot, as well as removing its memory snapshot if it exists. Assuming that you don't accidentally hit the 'delete all' button, the removal of any given snapshot does not affect any other snapshot.

vSphere has this new-fangled vBackup API that kinda does away with the VCB proxy if you want to do direct SAN-based data transfers on your backups. There are several vendors with products that support this, and my experiences so far a have been very positive. The main advantage of SAN/vBackup-based backup jobs are: Agent-less backup for the majority of ...

I have a similar environment and use Veeam Backup to do both backups and replicas. Veeam uses the changed block tracking function of vSphere, which shrinks your backup window. You can set backup expirations to keep 3 months of backups on-line and available. Total amount of backup storage will depend on the amount of changed blocks each day, and whether you ...

Have you looked whether the VMs complain about dropped interrupts or similar things - maybe the host hardware is just overloaded or not enough ressources are allocated to your VMs? If it's a flaky or overloaded network, the right thing to do would of course be fixing that; but if your hosting provider is not keen on that, can you use multiple physical paths ...

The conflict may be between the shutdown ports. VMware runs tomcat for the web access, and in my installation (VMware Server 2.0 on Ubuntu Linux) leaves the shutdown port at the default of 8005. Try changing the port for the shutdown command: <Server port="8005" shutdown="SHUTDOWN"> to <Server port="9005" shutdown="SHUTDOWN"> for example. ...

My reading of that article is that you should enable PortFast and leave bpduguard enabled. The VMware vSwitches pay no attention to the BPDU\STP traffic but it's possible that something could be done in a multihomed guest spanning separate vSwitches that could cause issues that bpduguard might help mitigate. It's far more likely that (re)wiring issues will ...

The backup solution will depend on RPO and RTO goals for the organisation, available bandwidth, hardware and backup windows. One large VMware environment I know relies on scripted VMware backup solution for OS recovery (full OS disk image snapshoted every week) plus in-OS agents for backing up data. Having dedicated boot disks in the machines helps with this ...

Do you need to change the port used by the VMWare instance specifically, or is it just to make sure that the two instances aren't conflicting? Changing the VMWare port may have unexpected effects, as other VM components may be looking for a Tomcat instance on that port; it depends on your individual setup, I suppose. Either way, you can change the port ...

The reason for the issue is that DEP is incompatible with some of the components. (Guessing: This is probably an ATL 7.1 activex control as there is a known issue with this version of ATL). The reason you are unable to disable DEP for the VpxClient.exe is because the flag NXCOMPAT is set in the executable, which forces DEP on, and prevents you from ...
