Originally a graphical addon for Microsoft DOS, Windows is now the dominant family of operating systems on the desktop.
Today there are several branches of Microsoft Windows:
- Windows, for desktops, notebooks, netbooks and tablets
- Windows Server, for servers
- Windows Embedded Compact, for embedded devices
- Windows Phone, for smartphones
