Confirmed, Daemon Tools v3.46 driver was the cause. I removed Daemon Tools and not the PC has been healthy for several weeks.

Could Nokia N810 give me the hardware I need? It has a USB-slave-port, it runs linux. I am a software engineer (a physicist by education), I would definitely welcome off-the-shelf hardware.

iaStor.sys was my original suspect, but it is listed in the poolmon output and seems to have reasonable and stable numbers.

I tried 2007-vintage poolmon.exe. It indicates that iastor.sys and usbstor.sys might be innocent. The offender is: Stor Nonp 169527 ( 13) 950 ( 0) 168577 49377328 ( 3744) 292 Unknown Driver BTW: xns2 is my Philips webcam. It does take 40MB but it seems to behave ok. As far as iastor.sys, this is 2004-04 PC, my version of iastor is the one recommneded by INTEL.

This is newer than mine, thank you! This is Server2003 SP2, I had SP1 or no SP.
