To clarify this, when a SFTC client connects it runs what sshd calls a "subsystem", namely sftp-server. There may be a way to configure sshd or your SFTP client to wrap this command in something like sudo -u user.

It looks like because the EBS volume was added later as sda that sda{1,2} points to the virtual disk that the instance was booted from and that sda points to the EBS volume. This might casue problems with programs that assume sda{1,2} to be a segment of sda.
