@Ablue, I'll wait for your packet capture. When you get it, please post a comment and use the @ symbol with my username so that I get a notification that you have the capture.

@Ablue, I guess you've checked that your server can reach the forwarders? When you edit them it should show a big green tick against each forwarder.

Would you turn on root hints and then do a packet capture at the DNS server for queries coming in, their replies, the queries it sends out and their replies? Post that along with the question. It'll be handy to have a screenshot of your forwarders pane in the MMC.

Did you try using ifconfig -a instead of ifconfig? The former will display information about adapters that aren't in the 'UP' state.

comment Windows 2008 DHCP service fails - “…failed to see a directory server for authorization.”
We have the same issues and being an Enterprise Administrator doesn't solve it. We tried looking but couldn't find a document that describes what exactly associates the DHCP and AD services.

Can you put forth your /etc/ssh/sshd_config? Have you checked it to see if password/interactive authentication is allowed?

comment Do you have any useful awk and grep scripts for parsing apache logs?
Apache HTTPD has a method with which you can effectively send the logs to a database. Yes, writes might take long, but a threaded proxy might do just the right thing sandwiched in the middle. Anyhow, that'll make querying logs in an SQL like syntax a lot faster. No loading involved too - the database server is perpetually "ON".

comment Linux. Different backup drive each week to same mount point
Instead of using /dev/sd[a-z] use links in /dev/disks/by-id/. Give your ext2/3 filesystems a label and they'll show up there!
