Is AWS itself off limits here?

Don't think anyone will see this at this point, but can someone elaborate on why this was closed as "not relevant to professional systems administration"? It was an issue I ran into while being paid as a devops engineer/sysadmin, and the database I was setting up is a core part of system that now processes billions of dollars a year in payments. I asked a well-defined question and got a prompt answer that I accepted, why all the haters?

@MikhailT. thanks for the link, I'll definitely look into this configuration using ZFS if I run into this issue again

comment Heartbleed: how to reliably and portably check the OpenSSL version?
This is unfortunately insufficient. You must also upgrade libssl1.0.0 explicitly on ubuntu. If you're seeing a built on date before April 7 2014 even if openssl is version looks correct (1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12 for Ubuntu 12.04) you are probably still vulnerable.

Cool. I knew about the -e flag for including classes, but I want to use some global variables across classes. So maybe I'll make separate manifests instead of nodes for each server and define some global variables in them (I should probably also make my modules more "functional" and pass in more parameters instead of relying on global variables). Anyway, thanks for the tips

comment password-less ssh works to connect to one user on a remote machine but not another
I'll try re-generating the RSA1 key when I get a chance tomorrow. Curious that it might work with one user and not another, but if those warnings aren't normal I'll look into it.

I've used /home/data/.ssh/id_rsa - so the local data user. Literally just a matter of ssh data@remote-server vs ssh hadoop@remote-server, both when I am the data user on local server.

@TheCompWiz - Sorry if that was unclear, there is only one remote server. Just trying to (passwordlessly) ssh in as a different user on that server.
