comment kill -9 a postgres process
Nice answer. An addendum: if you have a backend process that absolutely will not die--not with pg_terminate_backend, not with a server stack restart, not with anything, you can kill it however you want, but make sure you have a working backup of your database. You can do that a couple of ways: you can use pg_basebackup or similar (or just rsync and pg_start\stop_backup) to back up your data directory (test the backups before continuing!), or you can use pg_dump[all] to salvage your data. Only then should you consider kill -9, or a reboot, or whatever.

comment Contrib directory in PostgreSQL 9.1
When I install Postgres91 and contrib from the PGDG repo on CentOS 6, the contrib files/binaries are installed into /usr/pgsql-9.1, alongside the server package's binaries.

comment CentOS disable filesystem check: superblock last mount time is in the future
If I could, I would. But the developers need to set the machines' dates to weird values multiple times, after kicking the systems. And it's not feasible to have a build's cleanup set the date back to a sane value because, no joke, we have a significant number of build failures that page fault the systems.

I'd primarily be using SSDs for a L2ARC, but may need ZIL at some point as well. My main aim with this question was to determine if I should use RDM vs HBA Passthrough. You're right that the management overhead changes based on which I choose.

Interesting. How/with what technology?

But does that work for wirelessly-connected clients? Also, I've worked in networks that use port security before, and it's vulnerable to MAC address spoofing.
