comment Running shell script with no environmental variables
To add another use case: I am currently evaluating fish and zsh as an alternative to bash. But I'm not quite ready to promote the candidate shell as my login shell (as in chsh .... If I just open a terminal window and run zsh or fish (with or without -l doesn't matter) it pollutes my environment with all kinds of variables from the shell I started it. Doing the trick with env -c solves this problem for me. I do env -i TERM=xterm-256color $(which fish).

comment How do I restore (xterm|gnome-terminal) wrapping after telnet to HP equipment has messed it up?
That's right. I think the quotation (") is optional. This often helped me with a broken terminal shell session. Especiallay when connected to HP-UX systems.

comment What is good about the BSDs?
An update on virtualization. It looks like FreeBSD has decided to go for VirtualBox. It's now in the ports tree. More information here: miwi.bsdcrew.de/2009/06/virtualbox-is-now-available-in-ports wiki.freebsd.org/VirtualBox virtualbox.de/wiki/FreeBSD%20build%20instructions
