comment I/O Xen Server on disk filesystem ext4
could be a faulty cable or the disk is about to fail, S.M.A.R.T does not always predict disk failures.

comment PERC 6/i | ext4 | raid5 | 4 disks - improve write performance
i have tried raid10, it made no difference in write performance, maybe because with raid10 it does not need to calculate parity, but it needs to write to two disks. will try noatime. i did experiment with io schedulers, anything other than deadline or noop made it alot worse. as for alignment, i will give it a try. i did just try setting the cache to write only, the server almost came to a halt, so i assume sustaining that much read-speed is not possible without read ahead.

comment Managing installation of non-distro software
You can have a version suffix in the packagenames of the packages in your repository, this way yum would not complain about having multiple versions.

comment Test whether a user has sudo privileges without requiring user input
strange, there may be differences in behaviour based on versions or setups, i just checked again, with a new session and it did not prompt me for my password

comment How can I put the last zsh command in history into a clipboard?
If you read the question carefully, you will notice this part of the first sentence: "I need to copy/paste it either to a different terminal window/IM or whatever.". Doesn't that imply that he has a X Session?

comment Test whether a user has sudo privileges without requiring user input
a quick check on my ubuntu box gave me sudo -l, it returns the commands the user may run, if (ALL) ALL is part of them, the user is able to use sudo for any command. Maybe that's the right angle?

comment Test whether a user has sudo privileges without requiring user input
do you need to check wether the user has the possibility to use sudo, or if he is executing the shell script via sudo?
