If it involves computers or electronics, I probably do it.

I have experience with Exchange, Sharepoint, Zabbix, Powershell, Hyper-V clusters, and a whole host of other things.

If you need to contact me, my email address is grant@emsley.ca

comment Why is SCCM 2012 R2 is pushing client to devices without being configured to do so?
Check the event logs in a machine it was pushed to - the events immediately before the install may give you some clues.

comment How to emulate Windows event logging in Ubuntu?
@GaryS.Weaver Windows can read text files. Not well, with the built in notepad mind you, but it can :) Realistically, you will probably need separate log monitoring for linux systems.

Its actually much much easier to go the other way around, have windows log to a syslog server, and monitor the logs the unix way.

comment Easiest way to let random people connect to a public printer?
@kasperd Sure it does. If I were malicious, I would be capturing login cookies, running mitm attacks, etc. Free wifi can be very dangerous if you aren't careful.

comment Easiest way to let random people connect to a public printer?
@kasperd if the guests were security conscientious, they wouldn't be connecting to our free wifi in the first place. It's not like I'm forcing them to use our printer.

comment Understanding linux /etc/shadow file structure (Linux)
Anytime your plans involve directly reading or writing the shadow file...you're probably doing it wrong. There are standard utilities for manipulating accounts that are already thoroughly bugtested.

Can you rewrite that using either all the same fake name or all the real domainname? The mix of the two makes it hard to follow.

99% sure this is a permissions issue that changed with recent versions of bind...just to test can you try running a .exe file from the share?

comment Linux - Is there a way to prevent/protect a file from being deleted even by root?
@SimonRichter that seems to only apply to BSD kernels. Is there an equivalent in linux?

Do note that a user with root access can unset that flag and then delete the file. That is unlikely to happen by accident but it does not prorect against intentional deletion.

comment Stop users logging into Terminal Server via internet
@user3045068 Well, if you cant change how people connect, and cant spend any money, that really limits your options. The message you want is what you get if you arent allowed to use the terminal server at all - it doesnt distinguish between lan and wan.
