If it involves computers or electronics, I probably do it.

I have experience with Exchange, Sharepoint, Zabbix, Powershell, Hyper-V clusters, and a whole host of other things.

If you need to contact me, my email address is grant@emsley.ca

comment Stop file being deleted on NFS mount
An easier option might be to alter your demo provisioninh to use symbolic or hard to its files. Then they all still fully work and can delete without affecting each other.

Running browser automation tools on a domain controller?!? Thats a terrible idea. Why are you trying to do that?

Just because they arent blocked doesnt mean its a good idea. I would not expect to get any support on this server while those drives are installed.

comment Windows 8.1 third party firewalls and Hyper-V virtual switch compatibility
HyperV on Windows 8.1 is great for testing but not professional administration, thus offtopic. That said just configure the windows firewall properly, or use a hardware firewall

comment How to clone, disjoin & rename a Windows 2008 R2 VM offline, then rejoin domain online
Note that sysprepping a system may break some software. Or course, so may changing the computer name.

comment Cancel / block a task triggered with delay by windows “task scheduler”
The linux tools for handling a ups are quite good. If you have any linux systems you might want to have them deal with the ups and tell the windows machines when to shutdown.

Any idea if Hyper-V replica can be done between AMD and Intel servers?

comment INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE on Hyper-V 2012 R2 virtual machines
One though...does the amount of ram differ between working and broken vms? Try cloning a working vm then give it the vhd of a broken one. That would eliminate any weird hyperv config issues. Or just make sure every setting even ram size and such is identical to an ok vm.

Also I would build a vm, apply all except the latest updates and reboot a few times to see if it breaks. Then try again with newer updates one at a time. If it is an update breaking it you might narrow down which one that way (then tell us so we can remove it from our servers!). I was bitten by the KB2919355 fiasco. I dont want a repeat!

Scary thing to try...but is the problem limited to VMs or are the hosts affected too? Have you tried rebooting one of the cluster nodes a few times to make sure it comes back up? May be better to find out now than Christmas morning...

comment Get an SSL certificate without revealing my clients postal address?
Normal certs just require proof that you have administrative access to the domain - recieving emails to postmaster@example.com is usually sufficient.

Keep in mind that even if you to extract it from the registry/wmi - it will only tell you about updates windows knows about, so automatic checking for updates will need to be on and have run recently.

comment Why is SCCM 2012 R2 is pushing client to devices without being configured to do so?
Check the event logs in a machine it was pushed to - the events immediately before the install may give you some clues.
