comment INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE on Hyper-V 2012 R2 virtual machines
Scary thing to try...but is the problem limited to VMs or are the hosts affected too? Have you tried rebooting one of the cluster nodes a few times to make sure it comes back up? May be better to find out now than Christmas morning...

comment Get an SSL certificate without revealing my clients postal address?
Normal certs just require proof that you have administrative access to the domain - recieving emails to postmaster@example.com is usually sufficient.

comment Number of important Windows Updates
Keep in mind that even if you to extract it from the registry/wmi - it will only tell you about updates windows knows about, so automatic checking for updates will need to be on and have run recently.

comment Why is SCCM 2012 R2 is pushing client to devices without being configured to do so?
Check the event logs in a machine it was pushed to - the events immediately before the install may give you some clues.

comment How to emulate Windows event logging in Ubuntu?
@GaryS.Weaver Windows can read text files. Not well, with the built in notepad mind you, but it can :) Realistically, you will probably need separate log monitoring for linux systems.

comment How to emulate Windows event logging in Ubuntu?
Its actually much much easier to go the other way around, have windows log to a syslog server, and monitor the logs the unix way.

comment Easiest way to let random people connect to a public printer?
@kasperd Sure it does. If I were malicious, I would be capturing login cookies, running mitm attacks, etc. Free wifi can be very dangerous if you aren't careful.

comment Easiest way to let random people connect to a public printer?
@kasperd if the guests were security conscientious, they wouldn't be connecting to our free wifi in the first place. It's not like I'm forcing them to use our printer.

comment Understanding linux /etc/shadow file structure (Linux)
Anytime your plans involve directly reading or writing the shadow file...you're probably doing it wrong. There are standard utilities for manipulating accounts that are already thoroughly bugtested.

comment Using different NS servers for each subdomain
Can you rewrite that using either all the same fake name or all the real domainname? The mix of the two makes it hard to follow.

comment Can't run .bat file off share, but can from cmd
99% sure this is a permissions issue that changed with recent versions of bind...just to test can you try running a .exe file from the share?

comment Linux - Is there a way to prevent/protect a file from being deleted even by root?
@SimonRichter that seems to only apply to BSD kernels. Is there an equivalent in linux?

comment Linux - Is there a way to prevent/protect a file from being deleted even by root?
Do note that a user with root access can unset that flag and then delete the file. That is unlikely to happen by accident but it does not prorect against intentional deletion.

comment Stop users logging into Terminal Server via internet
@user3045068 Well, if you cant change how people connect, and cant spend any money, that really limits your options. The message you want is what you get if you arent allowed to use the terminal server at all - it doesnt distinguish between lan and wan.

comment Stop users logging into Terminal Server via internet
@user3045068 in that case I would look at replacing them with thin clients that support modern security, or with cheap low end desktops. Then use a ts gateway or vpn. The rdp client on my CELL PHONE supports ts gateways - there is no excuse for devices that dont.

comment Dell Poweredge 2970 - Cheap subsitute/compatible RAM for lab env?
@DylanKnoll Note that there are some individual ones for cheaper - around $30 - so its worth looking for single 8Gb sticks as well.

comment On a dual CPU server, is it normal for one CPU to run hotter than the other?
@LightnessRacesInOrbit actually he says he thinks that. The config file he linked to sets cpu temp max to 70. That would meam 70 deg above ambient before it alerts you...which seems way too high.

comment On a dual CPU server, is it normal for one CPU to run hotter than the other?
That is definitely a large part of your problem! However, it still doesn't explain the sensors reading 2 deg C unless you encased the server in dry ice or something.
