If it involves computers or electronics, I probably do it.

I have experience with Exchange, Sharepoint, Zabbix, Powershell, Hyper-V clusters, and a whole host of other things.

If you need to contact me, my email address is grant@emsley.ca

comment How does Intel AMT (Active Management Technology) not interfere with the TCP/IP host stack?
My guess would be it looks at all traffic on those ports, and if its not something it recognizes passes it up to the os. But that's entirely speculation.

+1 for NLSAS. Not much more expensive but less likely to cause controller issues.

Make sure you remember to remove it if you do one day install wordpress though!

comment Set iDRAC IP Address on Ubuntu 12.04 without Reboot?
It can be done with racadm - I've done it before. When I get back to the office I will look up how to do it.

@bt643 you don't need to change the server ip. Just set a laptop to the 192.168.0.x subnet and connect to the shared drac port. Bonding probably wont interfere, but if it does you can plug the laptop directly into the first port for a few minutes, since the servers connection is redundant.

comment MSTSC + gateway crashes on auto reconnect
Does this happen with all 64 bit machines? Tested with ine wuth a base OEM install not a corporate image? Try disabling printer and drive sharing, see if that makes any difference. What is the exact crash message you get?

comment Server have 6 harddisk, how to set daily full backup/clone harddisk?
@Earl you really should read your server's manual. You don't create hotswappable disks - they either are, or aren't. If they are hotswappable, the drives will usually be in a carrier that can be pulled out the front of the case without opening the server.

@Earl with RAID (and hotswappable disks), you don't even need to turn the server off. Pull out the failed disk, insert the new one. That's how you maintain uptime for a simple disk failure. Basically, the RAID controller keeps extra copies of your data spread out across the disks so even if one dies, all the data is still there. For RAID1 and 10, its actually a full extra copy of all data. For RAID5, it's just enough information to figure out what the lost data was and recover it.

See if firmware updates are available for the comcast router. I have seen some cable modem issues that cause similar behavior that were resolved in newer firmware.

+1 there are also a LOT fewer bots attacking RD gateways than there are direct RDP.

Not necessarily part of your current problem, but raId5 for really big disks is a bad idea. Very high chance of a second drive failing during the really long rebuilding process.

Are they ALL lenovo laptops? Lenovi has a tool that will fownload drivers for you, just select all your models.

comment Exchange - User not receiving email from random outside users
Do you use any external spam filtering? From your mail server, can you telnet to port 25 on their mail server? If not there is a connectivity issue. Do they (eventually, might take as long as a week or so) get a bounce message after they email you?

There is no such thing as a gigabit crossover cable. Gigabit interfaces automatically cross over when needed.

Even UDP would send something back to let the server know you are still listening.
