comment Why does one system take so much more time to “apply personal settings” when it boots?
This includes things the user has saved to desktop, doesn't it?

comment need a live UDP echo Server IP and port
I was looking for one of these recently, and found none. I think the minimum way of doing it involves getting your own server (eg from Amazon)

comment debian zero cpu usage on process stat
Try the "show threads as processes" option, which I think is the "H" option to ps.

comment TCP Window Size going to 0 / Wget stops downloading?
There are some packets listed there with len=1440. Are they getting lost on your unusual link? What sort of link is it? Another suspicion: is it failing after 2GB / 4GB of data?

comment lm-sensors voltage alarms, safe to ignore?
Afraid not .. there might be something in the BIOS, or you could just log values for 24 hours, average them and round to nearest decimal place, then set a 5% threshold on that.

Is there a reason you can't NAT them at your router?

comment Server hard disk read speed and client download speed, is there a connection?
Think pipes: there is no way that water can come out of the pipe faster (volume rate) than it goes into the pipe. This is true for any subsection of the pipe. So everything downstream of the bottleneck can only go at the bottleneck speed.

comment Horrible performing RAID
I suspect your client is calling sync() a lot, which forces the array to wait until it's committed the write and disables write caching. Do you have a NVRAM write cache anywhere?

comment RHEL5: Can't create sparse file bigger than 256GB in tmpfs
I'd like to confirm that this works, and is useful for other situations which tmpfs doesn't support.
