@LaurentiuRoescu Thanks, sorry, I'm looking at a Windows method. I should have pointed that out earlier. :)

comment How to setup a failover solution for Windows 2003 SMTP Server?
Thanks for the update. I'm also looking at a service based solution since I'd probably use a hosting company/cloud. Did some more research and discovered that Azure supports some sort of load balancing and failover.

I'm filtering those outgoing emails, archiving, some more processing before sending out.

thanks for replying. I have to set MX records when I setup my company domain for Google Apps Gmail. From my understanding, MX records are for the "receiving" SMTP Server. Does it also apply to "sending" SMTP Server. By sending SMTP server, I am referring to the Outgoing Mail Server client that is configured in Outlook mail client, for example, for Gmail, it is smtp.gmail.com, port 578.

Thanks. I'll select this as an answer even though I used Ultimate Boot CD and PartedMagic. :)

comment How to reinstall Windows 7 Embedded?
I'm using it for industrial communications, machine talking to machine. Rightfully, I should be using Linux as most of my competitors do but I'm having trouble porting. The normal operating system is considered too unstable. Win2k8 will also be overkill as I'm using entry level server running off ATOM.

Ops, I should mentioned, it's a rack server, but you still can install XP or Win7 on it. As I'm using it headless, I'm treating it as a server anyway.

comment Can Windows cluster failover a custom TCP Server application even when Windows itself is working?
@mrdenny- On further research, I found out that it is possible to remove the local node from the cluster by issuing the "nlb stop" via command line?

sorry for the late reply. Does this mean NLB will failover to the other servers in the cluster if the port in the primary server is closed?

Thanks, I know that it is using some methods but didn't know what it's called. Will do my research on Layer 2. I think we're getting close to an answer. :)

I just realized that I am using it for my NETGEAR broadband router :) My impression is that it is used to "fix" the IP address of the appliance only after the administrator has managed to gained access to the appliance. Here's the article I referred to - lifehacker.com/5822605/…

thanks for your reply, really appreciate it, am disappointed with the less enthusiastic response to network novices such as myself. If I were an expert, I could Google and find my own answer, wouldn't need to ask. I've did a quick research on DHCP reservations.... to be continued.

Thanks. This is a great find. Are there any equivalents besides nginx? Will test out.

I've seen many cases in which control server apps that cost tens of thousands of dollars to deploy and monitoring equipment and assets worth millions of dollars running on windows xp.
