The -v option is not listing hosts that are down. I also tried -vvv as well and I'm only getting hosts that are responding.

Accepting this one as the answer, though it wasn't what was needed to solve the issue. Point at SERVER_IP is what lead me to the issue at hand. My /etc/hosts file had the fully qualified name of the server despite the hostname of the machine not actually containing the domainname. Additionally the domain name was not set on the machine but rather the domain name is used for DNS. Modifying the entry in /etc/hosts corrected the issue. Thanks all to helped and let this hopefully help folks in the future.

That did not work. I'm still being prompted for a password.

comment How to restore from SQL Server 2005 backup
The database name is the exact same. The server has a different host name obviously but the name of the database is identical to the primary one.

The servers have the same service pack as they're VM's built from the same image. I do not see a "copy only backup" option as I make the backup. I did try the 'overwrite' option this time but I get the following error with/without that at this point: "Restore Failed for Server 'MyServer' Additional Information: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: RESTORE cannot process database 'MyDB' because it is in use by this session.
