The CGI version of PHP isn't an option because it's slower and doesn't have all the functionality of PHP, i.e. it can't send HTTP authentication headers.

Doesn't mod_suphp require that PHP be in CGI mode? That's not an option...

Thank you, that's very helpful since I don't have access to SU yet -- I'm not a beta member :-( I'll review and post excerpts of the panic log

Sadly I don't have a PC that accepts the same kind of DIMMs. But memtest on OS X reported no errors after 20 passes.

I have "Restart after a power failure" on. But where is this awesome "Restart after kernel panic" option?

Sadly no, the system is OS X Client. I wasn't aware that OS X Server would automatically reboot after a kernel panic -- any way to enable that on 10.4 Client?

Oh and server does have two 320 GB SATA drives in a software RAID-1. Drives are functioning normally, filesystem checks out. Although the kernel panics concern me that the filesystem may not continue to be OK due to a panic and we might lose data...

Sadly, no. When there's kernel panics I have a panic.log but when the system just dies, it just dies. No logs of interest. :-(
