Now I have chmodded the error has changed to: debug1: subsystem: cannot stat /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server: Permission denied and then later it just says (after a few more messages): Received disconnect from [My IP address]: 11: disconnected by user

I have also chmodded recursively everything in that folder to 700

Thanks... I get the following bad ownership or modes for chroot directory component "/home/nginx/domains/" I have tried chown -R root:root /home/nginx/domains to no avail, do you know how I could fix this?

@JeffFerland If I remove the chroot command and sftp in I am able to navigate to the directory with that user.

@Michuelnik that was a seperate issue, it does sort of correlate as I'm in discussion with Joseph Kern and hes found the issue which was something I did during that question which broke it.

Nope, I do have iptables... sudo etc/init.d/iptables status gives me a massive list of firewall settings .etc however I have no idea what I'm looking for

which iptables returns /usr/bin/which: no iptables in (/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin) and sudo iptables ---list returns sudo: iptables: command not found

Ok all of those are checking out ok (still no SSH) apart from I am unable to run iptables --list it doesn't understand that command.

@BartDeVos ps -A | grep ssh returns 3748 ? 00:00:00 sshd 17478 pts/0 00:00:00 ssh 17479 ? 00:00:00 sshd 17481 ? 00:00:00 sshd Honestly I have no idea what this means (am a newbie)
