Information and Communication Technology undergraduate. I work as a computer technician in a local computer store, and have a fair amount of skill fixing MS Windows problems.

i run my own mail and web servers as a hobby and testbed in hopes it might prove useful for any future employments

at home, i use kubuntu as my main OS of choice. i prefer debian systems, though i do run a couple of CentOS servers.

like my computers, i prefer cold weather, hence why i live on a cold mountain, 700 meters high.

my blood type is C+ (Caffeine), and my mental status is "mental-stability-proprtional-to-computer-proximity"... no medicine found yet, not that i'm trying :D

you are right. unless a person changed the /bin/sh link from dash to bash, as some do, in which case both our solutions will hiccup.

Thanks a lot. Yes, I am running an authoritative DNS server, and as you summed it, i guess I'll just have to wait.

comment How to block urls that request for robots.txt in lighttpd?
a 1 byte file will generate 150K bytes of data... much smaller than a complete 404 page, if your server serves one.

Some user will do the ssh connection, be it a cron job, or some other service. you could use public key cryptography, and then you'll have to add an entry for each computer in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys of the user being logged into on the central server.

wouldn't it be better to put a dummy robots.txt file?

comment possible UDP attack on BIND?
thanks a ton. i wasn't aware of the dangers of recursion... now it's set to allow only a trusted list of IPs. and thanks a lot for the detailed explanation, makes a lot of sense now :)
