IT Manager in Orlando, FL. Have been working in IT since late '95 and for Pharmaceutical companies since 2001. Prefer startups and tight-budgets (you get more creative that way) and work best under stress.

Windows Server 2003 SiSRaid Error, \Device\SCSI\SiSRaid1? I didn't even realize I forgot the link. This takes you to the relevant section about RAID controllers. -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID#Firmware.2Fdriver-based_RAID |

Strange network behaviour on XP Does the same happen in reverse? As in, if you connect via RDP and open a share, RDP hangs or is only shares you connect to? |

Find files on a specific sector of a DVD (RE: your edit) yah, that's why I went ahead and put on there what I could find to help. Figured it was probably way beyond a simple problem but you never know. Dunno how many times I've down long drawn out explanations just to find out it was the IDE cable or some such. |

Web server and database server in completely different locations Some other useful information to have; Ping time between hosts, basic configuration, more information on 'multiple trips' and if these different locations/hosts are in the same lan/wan or across the internet. Yes, network speed is significant to database transactions but it also depends on the speed. 100mbit to 1000gbit isn't as significant to a mildly used database as 1mbit to 6mbit. |

Cisco VPN Client on Server 2003 R2 You are totally correct, the requirement is policy based and is not required by the software alone. Sorry I was unclear, yesterday was a loooong day. |

Can anyone point me at an 802.11n range extender? This might prove useful, its an 'n' mimo inline antenna amp for just a little more than the above product -> radiolabs.com/products/wireless/802.11n-amplifier.php |

Windows environment variables: “Default User” vs. “System” Dang; I was writing an answer that you summed up so much easier. Yes, System is system wide, default is persistent until the user changes 'em and user is, well, for that user. As for no default in 2K3, I think its hidden in registry. The GUI doesn't give the option to change defaults unless its a terminal server. This is mainly because you don't have a lot of general users logging into a server (or shouldn't, at least). Since I can't find anything to backup my statement, I'd consider that just a theory. |

unable to schedule a task (access denied) Excellent answer, I ran into this issue a while ago and took about a week before I found the same fix you did, was quickly bookmarked and put in the our 'internal' wiki 'cause its fixed most of my oddball task scheduler issues. |

Smartphone emulation software You can avoid VS but you'll have to install the SDK to get them to work. Worst case, you can always do this all in a virtual machine so your not installing random developer tools on your computer. That's what I usually do. |

HP Tx1000 laptop : no LCD panel or HDD activity Its the ac/dc adapter, the little power brick you plug into the wall to give the PC power. Mine looks like a small plastic brick but some are of various other designs. Sometimes some of the components in the device fail and the laptop doesn't get any or adequate power to run. more detailed info -> uofr.net/~greg/hardware/laptop_power_troubleshooting |

Exchange 2007 can not send email to the Internet Hrmmm, I see what your saying. Oddly enough, while all 2003 traffic is going out the lowest cost connector (the 2003-2007 connector) it is going out the Exchange 2007 internet SMTP connector without issue. So as it stands right now it goes Email->Exch03->Exch07->Internet. This is odd, and from what your saying it shouldn't work but that's the way the queues are flowing, I have no messages in the unroutable queue. What are your connectors on both servers? Also, have you tried the mailflow troubleshooter yet? Doubt it'll help but you never know. |

Exchange 2007 can not send email to the Internet Strange, I don't see anything stating that in the article but its still early and I haven't had my coffee yet. I can confirm that both 2003 and 2007 servers can successfully send email to internet users though, it doesn't look like 2003 is routing through 2007 but that could be because of the 2003-2007 connector that shuffles internal email between the two. Now prior to this fix, 2007 was trying (and failing) to route ALL external email through the 2003 server. |
