Performing Patch/Delta Releases for Web Application Thanks for your help Lazy Badger. I am awarding the answer to Evan as I felt both your answers were very good, but his was first and his offered more with the rsync suggestion. Thanks! |

What performance issues are there with using symlinks for your Apache docroot thanks for the great response Janne! Your response is (IMO) equally as good as Joel's response. However, Joel's response was both earlier, and referenced a great blog post. I will be accepting his response as a result. Thanks! |

Performing Patch/Delta Releases for Web Application Thanks Evan. And thanks for editing my question with a more appropriate link to StackOverflow. I appreciate it. And of course, thanks for your suggestion to use rsync. I have been debating back and forth just which methods and tools are most appropriate and how to architect the deploy. I think rsync will definitely be a part of my solution. I presume you would not perform an rsync on a live vhost, but you would take it offline while performing the rsync update? |

Performing Patch/Delta Releases for Web Application this is a good suggestion. I suppose the next problem with that would be: 1) what codeline would this working copy be using? .../tags/current_release ??? 2) if not a fixed working copy, then what is a 'good' strategy for managing/switching the working copies in the release process? |
