comment Setting up a fake email address to trap spammers
What happens when you get spam from someone behind a large NATed address? Entire hotels, schools etc will get blocked when using this technique if the offender / infected computer enters these networks.

comment Encrypting traffic on remote end of SSH tunnel
Are you talking about traffic coming from an SSH shell? Or a dynamic proxy / tunnel established through SSH? If you are talking about the traffic coming from a secure shell (putty, ssh client on linux etc) I don't think you have to concern yourself as the packets transmitted to and from the server are all encrypted. Otherwise I am not sure about using tunnels to access other networks but I feel will be the same thing.

comment Building a MySQL server which processor to choose
Gotcha. If you are truly handling an average of that many records it's a toss-up... you will likely get by on the AMD processor, but all-to0 many times has that been the wrong way to go. If you can afford to get the best, with a slew of that many requests -- get the big guns :)

comment Why my own created mail server can not deliver mails to yahoo, gmail etc
Correct. You can set up an SMTP server at home, too but the methods I described are for a fully public mail server. If you are simply setting up SMTP at home, I advise you try CJC's suggestion to see if you are actually able to send mail from your internet connection bypassing ISP server settings (Most providers will block port 25 for SMTP unless you specifically send mail to their servers)

You have hard evidence that this is exactly what happened? How do you know they changed permissions and injected code and not gained access some other way?

comment New kernel compilation on CentOS
It could be that you do not have the right hardware drivers compiled in your new kernel. Did you simply use your old kernel config and added/removed a few things? Or did you use a default config and made a custom kernel from scratch?

comment Application “not supported” in a VM?
I know that MySQL Cluster apparently does not 'officially' work in a virtualized environment either. Reason? Dunno! :P

comment Samba directory listing a folder suddenly very slow now the folder contains more than 2tb of files
it could be an issue with a block on the disk that contains those Films files. Check dmesg, /var/log/messages for any possible logs pertaining disk access issues. That's the only thing that comes to mind, as I had a similar problem but I was using USB HDD and eventually that HDD deteriorated within months. Some sections of the HDD were OK, while others were incredibly slow.
