Leon LaSpina teaches math and computer science at the high school level.

I've been a fan of Java since I was introduced to the language in the late 90s. First as a client-side technology and educational tool, then as a server-side technology (Servlets, JSPs) and now my focus is back to the client side. Not everything needs to run in a browser.

In late 2011, I co-founded Smart Software Solutions, a company that builds software for schools.

My VPS is in production and runs a few web sites and web services for some non-profit organizations. There are other questions about WHM, DNS, and zPanel on serverfault, so it's not clear why this question was put on hold as off-topic. I am not a "cpanel user." I have command line access to the VPS and was previously providing cPanel accounts to a few customers. Now I am providing them with zPanel and ftp accounts instead.

Yet, there are some DNS setting in Zpanel which lead me to believe that it could help me set up my own nameservers the way that WHM cPanel does. But since I was unable to figure out how to get any of that working, I did exactly what you suggested.

Why is Tomcat on port 80 not recommended? If you are serving lots of static content then apache is more efficient, but if not, why not give tomcat port 80 and ditch apache?
