comment Are Oracle Database CPU license limits enforced by software, and how do I check them?
confirming this is intended as a technical question; I know how messy the business side of Oracle licensing is and there's no way serverFault can help me out there :-)

comment Are Oracle Database CPU license limits enforced by software, and how do I check them?
One of the devs said we had some really old grandfathered licensing agreement, so we might not be subject to the license-every-CPU-on-the-hardware... regardless, I need to track down our actual licenses now.

comment How do I find which Microsoft product a license key is for?
Most ways of getting software keys put the product with a key, but in MAPs a lot of the keys are orange stickers on the CD sleeves that do not name the product, so if you ever mix up the discs you're in trouble.

comment VMware vSphere 4: very slow file transfer speed in host (not guests)
Migrate is a function of vCenter, which we don't have for this office. I just checked our datacentre vCenter and it's not possible to migrate storage to a new datastore on a running VM without a Storage vMotion license.

Thanks. I'll put them aside and if my audit finds software we don't have a key for I'll see if those are the ones. :-)

comment Setup up site to site VPN between two Windows 2008 servers
Using routers is the fallback plan because of the time it will take to get the hardware configured and off to the remote office; I would have liked to get things running with the available hardware.

comment Using a .htaccess file to block .htaccess files being loaded to subdirectories
AllowOverride None for just one directory may be perfect... otherwise there's a potential attack of create directory/put .htaccess file in it/put malicious PHP file in it. It would be a lot nicer if the website code could be trusted to propelry filter uploads. :-)

Can you put the desired IP address into the App? Can you get the administrator to help with initial setup of whatever solution is suggested?

comment What should I consider when choosing a distribution to learn and master Linux?
It should also also be noted that CentOS is RedHat, just with the name changed (and no commercial support)

comment Merge 2 directory trees in Linux without copying?
If you literally have millions of files in a single directory then you should look into splitting the files up into separate sub directories for performance reasons - although this is irrelevant to the actual question asked.

Also, remember to add in any security patches/processes that are needed to prevent the same thing happening again.

comment Cisco ASA: Allow established traffic back in
Perfect: the following three lines have everything we need working: established tcp 0 0 established udp 0 0 access-list outside_in extended permit icmp any any echo-reply The allow-inside-out rule is there due to force of habit, as well as my dislike of trusting default settings that don't get displayed in configs. :-)
