The trailing dot tells the web browser to not-add .com. If you just put http://to, your browser changes that to http://www.to.com, but if you use http://to. then the web browser changes that to http://www.to

I find dpkg -s limited in utility, because it wants the actual package name, which may differ subtly or significantly from the library itself. I use dpkg -s|grep LIBRARY
