comment ipfw based firewall slows down Apache web server
This sounds like a great idea. So I have updated the FW script and commented out every single deny rule. Then I have restarted the FW via /etc/rc.d/ipfw start again. And now it comes: again the strange behaviour of Apache! Even though no single deny line is active any more, as soon as the FW is started Apache freaks out. I am really out of ideas here :(

I have updated the OP to show the stats per rule. Yes I do think I accept "new" connections on 80, isn't that exactly those first 2 lines you have quoted in your message? The other two rules should be fine, there is no service running on these ports at the moment. Also, the problem is not the load or I/O on the server, that is all fine. It is just those "hanging" connections in Apache when the firewall is active.

@voretaq7: I have updated the rules listing to show the stats. Is this what you wanted to see?

comment Why to use password protected SSH key files for remote access?
Ok thanks, that makes sense. Would that key agent also allow to automatically access the server then from a scheduled task (for backup from the server)? That was my original intention of using key files.

No information in error log, since I run the script from command line.
