comment FTP Script to download a set of files
The script will be executed on Windows 2000 server...not my choice, the ftp client is not set in stone, the ftp server is from SSH Comms (ssh.com)

I don't have anything yet, I was wondering if this sort of thing is possible with ftp scripting

comment How would you convert your paper reference collection to an electronic format?
Why is it only accessible at work? I had safari at work and used it at home just fine. As long as you are not sharing your login details with another user, it should not be a problem.

comment How do I serve Ruby on Rails applications on Windows Server 2008?
I can't see anything wrong with this suggestion, if the server in question is already running server 2008 then it is powerful enough to run a virtual machine as well.

comment Unlock AD User Account using DSMOD (command line)
I can see your point, sucks though! Stupid thing is that probably no one is auditing your code so it is a bit of a half-arsed approach from the auditing perspective. You could rename the tools to iexplore.exe :-)

So what if it is third-party. It does the job quickly and easily. I have used joeware tools to automate admin tasks and it has worked really well.

comment Detect who is logged on to remote Windows machines
you could do a ping against the machine(ping x.x.x.x -n 1) and check its output, that way your timeout against any machine is one second for the ping
