The mov switch will not move subdirectories. /mov /e will move files but copy subdirectories. If you want to keep only the parent directory, you must remove the empty subdirectories manually, or use one of the other answers that work

The fact that the win2003 server returns instantly makes me believe that this is not merely due to a difference in speed
