comment RDP fakout when connectiong: does nothing, no error
So even though it asks, doesn't mean it is connected when doing so. Well, it rejects bad usernames, so I know that the network service is trying to verify credentials on the remote machine, and if it got that far, it's not a firewall. Plus the firewall is all hardware and there's no reason that would change between reboots.

comment Send email from IIS on some action
wow, what a pain in the ass. I'm running like 20 apps. It would be way easier to put a heartbeat script on some other server to check HTTP codes for each site and email you when broken.

comment Strange behaviour in browser when accessing IIS sites on intranet
So, with more inspecting, I request a page at say 10.0.1.115:2020/register.aspx which returns some HTML. I then get 302 redirects for the linked CSS files to some random IP 10.0.1.75 and without filename (so not 10.0.1.75/style.css) just the IP. weird, right? and all this works fine on the actual server.

Can reproduce without proxy.

You don't think its the actual hosts file on the server itself? Er, wait, I guess IIS sets that binding...

No redirects. I just don't understand where the second request is coming from. It actually loads all the external CSS and JS files-- it just gets blocked by the random request, which I do see in fiddler.

comment strange IP requests on intranet from ASP sites
@MitchWheat I am a professional salaried programmer of 10 years, haha. We have no support IT staff. I got stuck with this stuff. Think I want to be doing IT? I voted that it belongs on the other stack--which i did not know existed because i'm too busy working.
